Read all about it…

Read all about it! Read all about it! My financial education report has been featured in a national newspaper – The Times no less!

For the past few weeks I’ve known about this and have been eagerly anticipated when my report will get its moment in the spotlight and there will be a proper conversation about financial education and that time is today.

You may be wondering how I got to this point, quite simply, I rang the journalist (the incredibly talented Harry Wallop) up, asked if he wanted to read my report and things just took off from there.

I had a wild fantasy that it could possibly be featured in his column but convinced myself that nothing of that nature would happen…until the next email I received said the contrary!

After that it was a stressful wait for things to start happening and after I was interviewed over the phone (something I worried about far too much – I didn’t sleep for two nights) it was just a matter of when it would be turned into an article.

When I first read his article I was amazed, it is funny, cleverly written and puts all of my stuff to shame! I still can’t believe that it’s happened, has been published and is hopefully going to be the start of more exciting things to come.

This is so exciting!! Unfortunately, when I try to read the article, it’s blocked by the Times unless I subscribe. Any way I can get access?

    1. If you search for @hwallop on Twitter there’s a link to it that isn’t behind a paywall. Alternatively, I can email you a pdf.

I’m not on Twitter. A pdf would be great. I printed a full copy of your original report.

Gabriella, thanks for the pdf of Harry Wallop’s column in The Times. As you point out, he is a great writer, and ties your report to other facts and figures he must have researched himself. It’s too bad you didn’t allow him to use your last name, but all the readers of his column who know you, will know it IS you.

I’m hoping his article will bring attention to the need for more teaching of finance in schools. From your conversations with Harry, do you see anything tangible developing? You can use his article to great advantage in the next step of your master plan.

I loved the reference to compound interest as the eighth wonder of the world!

    A great accomplishment. Well done!

    1. It’s very well-written (as is his book) which I’m very pleased about. I didn’t want my surname used but I wanted the people who know me to know that it is me 🙂

I hope it achieves something but I’ve not heard anything yet, I am now going to use this as a sort of catalyst for what to come (even though I’m not 100% sure what next).

I really liked the reference too, probably my favourite bit of the article (and the “complete failure” bit as said friend found it hilarious).
