The 2022 W Series season will not continue due to a lack of funding.

After many months of speculation and concern about the financial state of the W Series championship an announcement has been made today that the competition will end prematurely this season.

There were to be three more races with one at the Circuit of the Americas and a double header in Mexico City as a support race for the Formula One World Championship.

The powers that be at W Series have decided that prioritising the long-term funding of the championship is preferable in the hope of giving the feeder series a future.

This news is a blow to the world of female motorsport as W Series is one of the most prominent events that women compete in which in 2022 was increasing in its awareness and reach.

The curtailment of the season means Jamie Chadwick has been crowned champion for the third time in a row and remains the only W Series champion.

Reaction to the news has been pouring in from all sides of the W Series grid as many drivers find themselves with their main racing opportunity for the rest of the year.

W Series hope to have funding in place to run a full championship next year and to continue their pursuit of having more females in motorsport.
