Red Bull and Porsche merger fails to reach suitable conclusion

One of the major talking points of the 2022 Formula One season away from the track is the potential VW Group entries into the sport.

An announcement had already been made that Audi would be entering the sport however there had been no news about Porsche until now.

A statement from the German car manufacturers stated: “In the course of the last few months, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG and Red Bull GmbH have held talks on the possibility of Porsche’s entry into Formula 1.

“The two companies have now jointly come to the conclusion that these talks will no longer be continued.

“The premise was always that a partnership would be based on an equal footing, which would include not only an engine partnership but also the team. This could not be achieved.

“With the finalised rule changes, the racing series nevertheless remains an attractive environment for Porsche, which will continue to be monitored.”

It appears that Red Bull were unwilling to relinquish control of their highly successful organisation with Marko and Horner strongly objecting to losing a 50% stake.

Obviously, this did not sit well with Porsche who came to the decision that they should terminate discussions.

The final element of the statement implies they are still considering the prospect of a Formula One entry which will be great for the sport.
