Happy birthday Money (Motorsport) & More!

Money & More (formerly Motorsport & More) has been in existence a year which for me has absolutely flown by and the website has surpassed every single one of my expectations.

As I write, we’ve amassed over 6000 views from nearly 4000 visitors which is beyond what I ever expected (my first target was 100 in the first month – did that in a week – and 4000 by the first year).

6222 views might not sound a lot (I’ve probably come close in my brief time on TikTok so far) but considering I’ve done this mostly on my own with no real links to anything (except some car websites where I have a following) I’m very proud.

To commentate the crazy year Money & More and I have had, here’s a rundown of my top 5 article highlights from the past year.

Also in video form:

5. F1 Financial World Championship

A very recent (but very successful) article was my F1 Financial World Championship. It was just a random idea I had that I don’t think anyone else has done (always a good thing) which quite a lot of people enjoyed both from the world of F1 fans and finance-minded people. I’m hoping to redo it next year – will we have a new winner?

4. Thomas Cook

My analysis of the failure of Thomas Cook was my first proper ratio analysis article which spawned many more (and the spreadsheet I use to do it all), it was also quite a cool story and interesting to write.

Another similar one is my recent analysis of Wilko which was fun as I wrote it as it was happening (rather than two years later).

3. DriveTribe

The most special article to me is my piece on why DriveTribe failed. DriveTribe was pretty much the reason I publish writing (short version) and involved a lot of people. I canvassed opinions from former users, had people helping me with the finances and other things. This article was also the first to break 100 views on it’s own.

2. GCSE Business

Anyone who knows me is probably aware that I love business studies and I want to be a business teacher so it’s pretty logical that one of my favourite pieces of content is my GCSE Business PowerPoints. It’s one of the most downloaded files so hopefully it’s helped a few people.

1. Financial Education Report

No prizes for guessing my favourite Money & More content: my report into financial education. This was relatively well received with views (most downloaded file) but it really changed the game for me.

Not only was my report featured in The Times (still can’t believe that) but it has led to a whole load of opportunities and interesting conversation with amazing people which if you’d told me a year ago would be in my email inbox I wouldn’t have beloved you.

The final thing I have to say is thank you to Girl in the Pitlane, my two former business teachers and everyone’s who’s read, shared, liked, commented or subscribed on anything to do with Money & More.

Gabriella, congratulations on your website’s first birthday. Such an accomplishment! I agree with your top five but would have added your Liberty Media/F1 analysis as a runner up. I’m happy to say that I’ve read every one of your articles and commented on them all!

One thing I’ve noticed as I visit other sites. Great writers like you take the time to post excellent articles and attract hundreds, even thousands, of views, but hardly ANY comments.

I’m a firm believer that a worthwhile article deserves a comment. That’s why I do so many comments. Why do so many people “like” articles but don’t comment?

I’d love to know. How about a research paper on this subject?

Loved the video. You are very adept at electronic media.

    1. Thanks! I found the liberty media one less fun to write (mostly because US accounts are different to UK ones so it took ages). Well done, I don’t think anyone else has achieved that feat. 😂

I’m not going to do a research paper on it because I really do not have the time but I think it’s because in most cases you need an account to comment and if you read/see loads of content in a day there’s not time to comment on it all.

Thanks, I just have a go at everything and see what works/I enjoy making.

You may be right about needing an account to comment, but on PRNDL for example, even account holders don’t make many comments. Keep up the good work !
