F1 Academy to increase ties with F1

Formula 1 team liveries to appear on the 2024 F1 Academy grid with 10 drivers to be backed by F1 teams.

Ten of the drivers will be nominated by F1 teams with the car’s featuring the liveries of the outfits.

This move is set to focus the F1 teams’ attention on female motorsports as only one driver has an active role with an F1 team with Abbi Pulling in the Alpine Academy who already competes in an Alpine liveried car (see photo).

The other five drivers on the grid will be backed by external sponsors.

This marks a step change for F1 Academy as the series currently lurks in the shadows with no live coverage nor being an F1 support series.

In 2024, F1 Academy will join the Formula One calendar as it strengthens its ties to the pinnacle of motorsport hopefully increasing the viewership and attention the all-female series gets.

F1 Academy Managing Director Suzie Wolff said, “This landmark moment not only demonstrates the depth of support for F1 Academy from across the F1 community but will inspire a whole generation of young girls to realise the opportunities both on and off track in motorsport.”

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said, “We created F1 Academy to bring about real and lasting change to ensure young female talent have the right system in place to follow and achieve their dreams.

“Today is a very important moment as it shows the impact the project is having and the support it is receiving from across the F1 community.

“Susie, the teams, and everyone involved are working tirelessly to ensure we go from strength to strength and continue to deliver on the important objective we have set out together.

“In 2024 the F1 Academy will join our race calendar, raising the awareness and profile of the series globally and to have the F1 liveries on the grid will be something very special.”

The 2024 F1 Academy season continues this weekend in France with Marta Garcia leading the championship.

Gabriella, I recall that you reported earlier that, with the demise of the W Series, the ties of the F1 Academy with F1 will be strengthened. All the steps you mention are worthwhile and will be very beneficial for the drivers and supporters. With 10 of the 15 teams displaying liveries of their F1 sponsors and the other five by presumably big time names, the lineup will look like the real deal.

I think the biggest breakthrough for the Academy is joining the F1 circus. To be part of the racing program on a regular basis, with some TV exposure, will be a big boost to fan growth.

I wish the F1 Academy all the best, and thanks for also posting this on Race Director

    1. It will definitely make it look a bit better but also probably a bit confusing to watch (as it’ll be hard to tell which constructor). Hopefully they will actually broadcast it as that would be a big help to the series (and to me trying to report on it!).
