The São Paulo sprint lived up to the excitement we were always promised with a battle for the lead, overtakes up and down the midfield with little interruptions from incidents.

Mercedes – A maiden win for Russell after a thrilling battle with Verstappen in the sprint after the Brit had a strong race. Hamilton fought back from eighth to take P3 and will start alongside his teammate for the first Mercedes front row lockout of 2022.

Ferrari – A great drive from Sainz put him into P2 however he starts five places back due to a engine penalty. Leclerc also redeemed himself after Ferrari’s qualifying mishap into P6.

Red Bull – A rare strategy blunder from Red Bull cost them the victory as Verstappen struggled on the medium tyre. Perez fought through the pack to P5 however he wanted his teammate to relinquish his position.

McLaren – A decent day for McLaren with Norris taking P7 after a good drive and Ricciardo made up positions up to P11.

Haas – After the excitement of leading the opening lap of the sprint, a string of cars then overtook Magnussen as he finished in P8. Schumacher advanced from last to P12 in a great drive.

Aston Martin – Fractious relationships in the Aston Martin garage after contact between the drivers on track earned Stroll a ten second penalty and potentially cost Vettel positions. They ended up P9 and P16.

AlphaTauri – Another uneventful performance from AlphaTauri with Gasly in P10 and Tsunoda in P15.

Alfa Romeo – An improvement on their qualifying positions but nothing particularly exciting for Alfa Romeo. Bottas was P14 with Zhou P13.

Alpine – Another team that paid dearly for intra-team battles was Alpine, fighting on lap one and contact between the drivers ruined both their races with Alonso P18 and Ocon P17 – McLaren must be laughing.

Williams – A dire performance from Williams with Albon the only DNF after mechanical issues and Latifi the last of the runners after the medium tyre failed to work out for them.
