An uneventful race of tyre management is what we ‘enjoyed’ in Mexico but it left Max Verstappen with a new record and a few interesting storylines for those who made the wrong decisions.
Red Bull – Another dominant display from Verstappen as he chalked up his 14th win of the season after a strategy masterclass. Home hero Perez also ended up on the podium in P3.
Mercedes – Another podium for Hamilton after a great start whereas a tyre conundrum ended badly for Russell in P4 with an additional pit stop to attempt the fastest lap.
Ferrari – Where were Ferrari this weekend? They’re normally front-runners but this weekend were lagging behind in P5 and P6 barely making any attempt to move forward for fear of engine explosions.
McLaren – A soft tyre masterclass from Ricciardo put him P7 despite collecting a ten second penalty for causing a collision with Tsunoda. Norris also made it into the points in P9.
Alpine – Ocon did reasonably well and put his Alpine in P8 whereas Alonso’s car suffered technical issues that forced him to retire from the race and brought out the only virtual safety car.
Alfa Romeo – Despite starting P6, Bottas only managed P10 but still clinched a point for his team. Zhou wasn’t too far behind in P13.
AlphaTauri – Gasly netted himself another five second penalty for forcing a driver off the track but this time it was served properly and he finished P11. Tsunoda was one of two DNFs after contact with Ricciardo.
Williams – So close for Albon after spending a large proportion of the race in the points but he ultimately ended up P12. Latifi was last of the finishers (shock horror) in P18.
Aston Martin – Aston failed to change their fortunes after a disappointing qualifying and ended up with Vettel in P14 and Stroll in P15.
Haas – Slow pace and slow pit stops meant Haas had probably the worst race of all the teams with Magnussen in P17 and Schumacher in P16.
