Formula One returns to Mexico City and is greeted by fervent fans and a brilliant track. Analysis only of FP1 this week due to the Pirelli tyre test.

Ferrari – A 1-2 in the first practice session is promising for Ferrari’s Mexico prospects with both drivers putting in strong lap times on throughout the session. Sainz once again showed his pace as he topped the session. Only ‘issue’ was the comedic confusion between De Vries and debris.
Red Bull – Slightly over a tenth of the front runners were Red Bull in an immensely close session. The home hero led the Red Bull pairing in P3 with Verstappen in P4.
Mercedes – Hamilton was close to Red Bull and Ferrari in P5 however De Vries was in the second car which meant the other Mercedes came in P18.
Alpine – Once again Alpine are in the mix with Alonso less than two tenths off the lead although the other car was piloted by Jack Doohan who put it P19.
Alfa Romeo – A decent string of lap times from Bottas put him in the top ten in P7 with Zhou slightly further behind in P12 after suffering mechanical problems in the pit lane.
McLaren – Currently hard to tell if they will be faster than their championship rivals Alpine this weekend but Norris was in P8 while Ricciardo suffered brake issues and could only manage P11.
AlphaTauri – Gasly drove well in FP1 which put him P9. Liam Lawson took over Tsunoda’s seat but a brake fire lead to a premature end to his session however he was fastest of the rookies in P16.
Aston Martin – Nothing astounding from Aston Martin in FP1 with Vettel in P10 and Stroll in P13. Probably not going to be fighting at the front this weekend.
Haas – Haas failed to impress in FP1 with Schumacher in P14 and rookie Piettro Fittipaldi coming in last after causing a red flag due to an MGU-K issue that ended his session prematurely.
Williams – Despite being quick on the straights Latifi could only manage P15 in practice with Logan Sargeant in P17.
