Formula Three test for promising female talents

Abbi Pulling, Nerea Marti, Chloe Chambers and Hamda Al Qubaisi successfully completed a Formula Three test as part of their efforts to move up into the higher tier series.

Marti was a last minute replacement for Tereza Babickova who was unable to complete the test due to a spinal injury.

The women were invited by Formula Three to Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours along with three other promising female talents to give the drivers an idea of what the car is like in the hope of getting more women into the series.

During the test, the drivers were given three sets of brand new slick tyres, using them to complete qualifying laps and race simulations which gave them 50 laps with the Formula Three machinery.

The drivers were also introduced to the Drag Reduction System (DRS), an aerodynamic device used in Formula One, Two and Three which gives the car a higher top speed and reduces air resistance. This system does not appear in W Series or other championships they had raced in previously.

To help the drivers throughout the test the current Formula Three champion Victor Martins and Formula Two driver Tatiana Calderón gave advice and information about the car.

After the session Pulling commented “There was a lot to learn today, not only about the car, but also about myself. I came here with a big smile on my face. I really enjoyed it a lot. It’s been really amazing to work with the F3 team. It’s been a productive day.

The Formula Three test was not the only motorsport activity Abbi Pulling took part in this week with a guest appearance in the Radical Challenge alongside fellow W Series driver and Alpine Affiliate Alice Powell.

The duo took turns in the car built near Peterborough but technical issues meant they failed to set a lap time in qualifying.

Despite starting from the back, Pulling and Powell put on a strong performance and managed to claim a podium finish.
