Italian GP Debrief

An uneventful race that ended under a safety car that provided a few interesting stories…

Red Bull – An eleventh race win this season for Max Verstappen after he breezed through the field in the early stages of the race. Perez had tyre issues and could only manage P6.

Ferrari – The home heroes has a decent result with P2 for Leclerc and P4 for Sainz. They didn’t mess up the strategy but the win escaped them and probably disappointed the tifosi.

Mercedes – A reasonably strong performance for Mercedes with Russell collecting his second consecutive podium in P3 while Hamilton put in a brilliant drive to go from the back up to P5.

McLaren – I’d imagine there’s some misery in the McLaren garage as a painfully slow stop cost Norris a position who finished in P7. Ricciardo suffered a power unit issue and retired from the race causing a controversial safety car period.

AlphaTauri – A good day for AlphaTauri with Gasly in the points in P8 while Tsunoda did some form of a recovery drive up to P14.

Williams – Delight for De Vries as on his F1 debut he scored points in P9 and pushed his teammate into 21st in the championship. While De Vries had the adulation and driver of the day, Latifi struggled and came P15.

Alfa Romeo – Zhou fought well throughout the race and ended up in the points in P10. Bottas was hampered by a penalty and ended up P13.

Alpine – Ocon narrowly missed out on the points in P11 whereas Alonso was forced to retire from the race. All in all, not a great day for Alpine.

Haas – More poor performance from Haas with Magnussen P16 and Schumacher P12. Hopefully they can make a triumphant return to the points soon.

Aston Martin – A double retirement for the British team with both cars suffering issues. Three Mercedes power units suffered issues today – anything in that?
